Twin Peaks : Guide des Episodes Saison 2 : Episode 8

"Hello again. Can you see through a wall? Can you see through human skin? X-rays see through solid, or so-called solid objects. There are things in life that exist, and yet our eyes cannot see them. "In a dream, are all the characters really you? Different aspects of you? Do answers come in dreams ?"

"One more thing: I grew up in the woods. I understand many things because of the woods. Trees standing together, growing alongside one another, providing so much."

"I chew pitch gum. On the outside, let's say of the ponderosa pine, sometimes pitch oozes out. Runny pitch is no good to chew. Hard, brittle pitch is no good. But in between there exists a firm, slightly crusted pitch with such a flavor. This is the pitch I chew."

Cooper a échappé à la mort grâce à son gilet pare-balles. Il reçoit la visite d'un vieux serveur sénile qui lui apporte un lait chaud mais ne fait rien pour l'aider, à part raccrocher le téléphone.
Puis il reçoit la visite d'un énigmatique géant, qui lui donne trois indices : "Il y a un homme dans un grand sac souriant", "les hiboux ne sont pas toujours ce que l'on pense" et "Sans produit chimique, il apparait" .
Andy, qui a entendu le coup de feu au téléphone, arrive avec Truman et Hawk. Ils emmènent Cooper à l'hôpital.
Au Jack n'a qu'un oeil, l'intervention de Jerry Horne sort Audrey d'une situation inconfortable face à son père, le propriétaire de la maison close, venu essayer la nouvelle fille.
À l'hôpital, Ronette commence à émerger de son coma et prononce le prénom de Laura.
Léo et Nadine sont dans le coma, Pete Martell et Shelly ont été intoxiqués par la fumée de l'incendie et le docteur Jacoby se remet d'une crise cardiaque.
Les cheveux de Leland sont devenus blancs en l'espace d'une nuit et il affiche une surprenante bonne humeur...
Josie et Catherine ont disparues...
Suite à un message laissé à son intention au double R, Donna décide de prendre la place de Laura dans la tournée de distribution de repas à domicile afin de trouver de nouveaux indices.
À l'hôpital, Cooper reprend son enquête malgré l'avis du docteur Hayward.
Ben Horne veut découvrir ce qui est arrivé à Catherine. Leland Palmer arrive en chantant...
Lors d'une perquisition chez les Johnson, Cooper détermine ce qu'il s'y est passé la veille et Andy découvre accidentellement des indices : des bottes neuves et de la cocaine.
Truman interroge James : ils écoutent la cassette trouvée chez Jacoby et James lui apprend que Laura récitait une comptine qui parlait de jouer avec le Feu.
Cooper demande à James de lui remettre le pendentif en forme de coeur. James lui dit qu'il l'a trouvé chez Jacoby.
Donna rend visite à James en prison, elle semble possédée par Laura.
Cooper interroge Jacoby à propos du pendentif : le docteur raconte que, la nuit suivant la mort de Laura, il a suivi Léo. Après avoir perdu sa trace, il a suivi la moto de James Hurley et a vu James et Donna enterrer le pendentif.
Bobby Briggs rend visite à Shelly.
Cooper rencontre Ed à l'hôpital, il est au chevet de Nadine et parle à Cooper de son passé.
Cooper trouve la réponse à la première énigme du géant...
Au double R, Bobby a une discussion avec son père et semble ému. En voyant Hank, il se remémore les évènements de la veille chez Léo.
Andy découvre que Léo Johnson était en prison au moment du meurtre de Teresa Banks. Il ne peut donc être le meurtrier. Cooper se lance sur la piste d'un troisième homme, qui aurait entrainé Laura et Ronette dans le wagon.
Cooper et Albert exposent leur théorie sur les évènements de la nuit du meurtre de Laura.
Ben et Jerry rencontrent Hank Jennings, qui confirme que Catherine était dans la scierie quand l'incendie a éclaté.
Truman raccompagne Pete chez lui, ils trouvent un mot laissé par Josie, elle est allée à Seattle.
Audrey est convoquée chez Blackie, qui n'est pas très satisfaite de ses services.
Les Palmers dinent chez les Haywards, Leland semble particulièrement joyeux...
Audrey prie pour que Cooper lui vienne en aide.
À la fin de la journée, Cooper reçoit une nouvelle visite du géant...
Ronette revit le meurtre de Laura...

Cooper (allongé sur le sol, blessé): OhKaayy
Cooper (à Diane): At a time like this, curiously, you begin to think of the things you regret, or the things you might miss. I would like in general to treat people with much more care and respect. I would like to climb a tall hill, but not too tall, sit in the cool grass, but not too cool, and feel the sun on my face. I wish I could have cracked the Lindbergh kidnapping case. I would very much like to make love to a beautiful woman who I had a genuine affection for. And of course it goes without saying that I would like to visit Tibet. I wish that the Tibetan government would allow the Dalai Lama to return to his native land. Oh, I would like that very much.
Le Géant: I will tell you three things. If I tell them to you, and they come true, then will you believe me?
Cooper: Who's that?
Le Géant: Think of me as a friend.
Cooper: Where do you come from?
Le Géant: The question is, where have you gone? The first thing I will tell you is: there is a man in a smiling bag.
Cooper: Man in a smiling bag.
Le Géant: The second thing is: the owls are not what they seem. The third thing is: without chemicals, he points.
Cooper: What do these things mean?
Le Géant: This is all I'm permitted to say. Give me your ring. I will return it to you when you find these things to be true. We want to help you.
Cooper: Who's "we"?
Le Géant: One last thing: Leo locked inside a hungry horse. There is a clue at Leo's house. You will require medical attention.
Truman: Lucy, you better bring Agent Cooper up to date.
Lucy: Leo Johnson was shot, Jacques Renault was strangled, the mill burned, Shelley and Pete got smoke inhalation, Catherine and Josie are missing, Nadine is in a coma from taking sleeping pills.
Cooper: How long have I been out ?
Truman: Six hours.
Doc Hayward: You're not going anywhere.
Cooper: Doc, when the will is invoked, the recuperative powers of the physical body are simply extraordinary. Just give me a couple of hours to get dressed.
James (à Truman): Would you like to play with fire, little boy? Would you like to play with BOB? Would you like to play with _BOB_?
Albert : And it's another great moment in law enforcement history.
Pete: This smoke inhalation is a nasty business. I feel like someone taped my lips to the tailpipe of a bus!
James: When'd you start smokin'?
Donna: I smoke every once in a while. Helps relieve tension.
James: When'd you get so tense?
Donna: When I started smokin'.
Bobby: Dad?
Major: Yes, son?
Bobby: What is it that you do, exactly?
Major: That's classified.
Bobby: Oh.
Le Géant: Sorry to wake you.
Cooper: I'm not dreaming.
Le Géant: I forgot to tell you something.
Cooper: You were right about the smiling bag.
Le Géant: The things I tell you will not be wrong. Better to listen than to talk.
Cooper: I believe you.
Le Géant: Don't search for all the answers at once. A path is formed by laying one stone at a time. One person saw the third man. Three have seen him, yes, but not his body. One only, known to you, ready now to talk. One more thing: there is something which you have forgotten.
Cooper: What?
Le Géant: [Flash!]

Le reporter relatant l'incendie de la scierie Packard est interprété par Mark Frost.
Cet épisode de début de saison dure 90 minutes.
Carel Struycken, le Géant, est apparu dans la Famille Adams et les Valeurs de la Famille Adams. Il a tenu également un rôle dans Star Trek : The Next Generation, celui de Mr. Homm, l'assistant personnel de Lwaxana Troi, la mère de Deanna Troi.
Lorsque Maddy puis Donna portent les lunettes de soleil de Laura, elles semblent possédées par son esprit. (Maddy lors de sa conversation avec Donna au double R et Donna lorsqu'elle rend visite à James en prison)
C'est l'un des rares épisodes où l'on peut voir les deux jeunes soeurs de Donna, Harriett et Gersten.
Le poème que récite Harriett est le suivant :

Diane, it's - I don't know what time it is, Diane, I've been shot. I was out for a while and I can't reach my watch. The sky's getting light, I can hear birdsong. I'm lying on the floor of my room. There is a great deal of pain and a fair amount of blood. I seem to remember three shots, all to the midsection. I was wearing my vest last night, per Bureau regulations when undercover, but even so, if you can imagine someone dropping three bowling balls on your chest from a height of about nine feet you might begin to approximate the sensation.
On balance, though, being shot is not as bad as I had always imagined it might be. If you can manage to keep the fear from your mind. Then again, I suppose you could say that about almost anything in life: it's not so bad if you can keep the fear from your mind.

Diane, it's 11:55 p.m., approximately nineteen hours since the shooting incident that nearly caused me to make a premature purchase of the proverbial farm. There's every reason to think I'll make a complete recovery, which I would like to get a good jump out of the blocks on by sleeping solidly for at least eight or nine hours ... a man can only go so long without submitting to a period of rest ...
... for as we know from experiments performed on American GI's during the Korean War, sleep deprivation is a one-way ticket to temporary psychosis and I'm working on a three day jag. I got so goofy last night as I was lying here wondering whether I was going to live or die that I thought I saw a giant in my room, but perhaps I'll save that story for another time.
